While the name Teddy Roosevelt Terrier isn't yet widely known they have been around for some time. My 1st experience with them was my Grandparents dog Penny from 1960 - 1975. Then called the Rat Terrier, Bench Legged or Short Legged Fiest.
It wasn't until the 1980's that I came across them again. They were still known as the Rat Terrier, type B (short leg). They only registry at the time was the CKC. I joined the RTCA (Rat Terrier Club of America) at that time and I continued breeding for the short legs until the early 1990's. I stopped because the UKC and AKC still hadn't recognized the breed as yet. Seems I stopped just short of realizing that dream but I never lost the love for this amazing breed of dog.
In 2019 I searched for the breed again, now called the Teddy Roosevelt Terrier and here we are. We belong to a local kennel club and actively show and compete in Performance events to showcase the amazing versatility of the Teddies. They are a hunting terrier, a loyal companion, and incredibly smart and versatile. We like to call them the Go Anywhere, Do Anything dog. They truly are a 'Big Dog In A Little Package'.
We are a preservation breeder working to produce healthy pups that are bred towards the breed standard, improving the breed with each generation. Adult dogs are DNA tested through Embark and clear of 200+ canine diseases. All dogs are also cardiac and patella screened and on file with OFA, with results posted for viewing.
